Director of Jewish Education & Learning Initiatives

Abra Lee returned to TBJ in 2020 serving in a new role as Director of Jewish Education and Learning Initiatives. Previously at TBJ, Abra served in many educational roles including Director of Religious School until 2012. After leaving her professional role at TBJ, she joined the Department of Lifelong Jewish Learning at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York, where she served as Coordinator of School and Family Learning, where her chief responsibilities included relationship building and family engagement. Later, Abra became the Director of Youth Learning and Engagement at Temple Emanu-El of Westfield, directing several initiatives to innovate and enhance Jewish education for children in Kgn – 12th grade and their families, creating meaningful experiences of joyful, dynamic and engaging learning, while providing a breadth of “on-ramps” and choice for today’s busy learners. In addition to her role as an educator in Westfield, Abra participated on the strategic planning task force and was the staff liaison to their Task Force for Diversity and Inclusion, achieving Greater Metrowest Federations ABEL award, indicating a high standard of inclusion of people with disabilities.

Abra joined the faculty of URJ Camp Harlam in 2009 and is thrilled to still return each summer to the place her family calls their summer home. She is a former Fellow in the Leadership Institute, a joint program of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and the Jewish Theological Seminary, which offers congregational educators the opportunity to expand their knowledge and build a new vision of educational leadership. She holds a Master’s degree in Jewish studies, a graduate certificate in Jewish education from Gratz College, and earned the credentials of RJE (Reform Jewish Educator) from the Association of Reform Jewish Educators. Having spent several years in industry before pursuing her passion for teaching and learning, Abra also earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and international trade from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Along with her husband and childhood sweetheart, Alex, Abra is a proud parent of Mackenzie and Max, the third generation of their family to call TBJ their spiritual home. They enjoy cheering on their children at volleyball games and wrestling matches and are avid movie goers! The entire Lee family is overjoyed to be part of the extended family at TBJ.
