Shabbat Scholars: Rabbi Naamah Kelman and Dr. Elan Ezrachi

February 6 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Join us for two opportunities to learn with our Shabbat scholars, Rabbi Naamah Kelman and Dr. Elan Ezrachi.

Rabbi Naamah Kelman was the first woman ordained in Israel in 1992 by the Hebrew Union College where she served in numerous positions, retiring as Dean in 2023. Born and raised in New York City during the birth of the Civil Rights Movement and Feminism, she brought those values to Israel when she moved here in 1976. She continues to be active in promoting women’s leadership, interfaith dialogue, shared society and religious pluralism.

Elan Ezrachi, PhD is a Jerusalem-based Jewish Peoplehood educator and scholar. He is the author of the Melton adult learning course: The Jewish State: Examining the Jewish Identities of Israelis, which is taught at Temple B’nai Jeshurun.

Parashat Yitro: Reform Rabbinic Leadership in Israel: A Robust Answer for a Jewish Democratic Society

Rabbi Kelman will share the growing pains and successes of the Reform Movement in Israel, led by a Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion trained Israeli Rabbinate, offering a vibrant alternative to growing extremism and polarization. It is critical to connect American Jews to this narrative and commit to a vital partnership.
